Biography

1803     begins medical training at Prague University

1805     appointed magister for obstetrics at Prague University, holds an ascending series of posts

1814     earns M.D., appointed professor for Theoretical Chemistry (huh?)

appointed professor of public health

1828     appointed professor for special pathology and therapy

It seems a bit strange to us nowadays for a 23-year old to be practicing obstetrics, but you have to remember that it was a low priority/status field back then. He used his position at Prague University to conduct research on the toxicity of fungi to experimental animals, and incorporated the results in his huge multi-volume work. He also used his influence to get the penniless August Karl Joseph Corda admitted to the university, thus starting his career.

Dörfelt & Heklau also say that Krombholz did a lot of work clearing up pre-Friesian names that Fries himself hadn't gotten correct
