Biography

Desmazières was an independently wealthy man who lived in Lille, and devoted himself to cryptogamic botany. He was the editor of the journals Annales des sciences naturelles and the Bulletin de la société des sciences de Lille.

Selected Publications

Jean Baptiste Henri Joseph Desmazières (1825 - 1851) Plantes cryptogames du Nord de la France (Cryptogamic plants of France)
An important set of exsiccati, in 44 fascicles.
Dörfelt & Heklau say that after fascicle 17, the title of this series changed to Plantes cryptogames de France 1836-51 (not to be confused with his exsiccati of the same name 1853-1861), which ran for 37 more fascicles. That leaves us with a discrepancy of 10 fascicles, which I'm assuming for the moment is just a typo.

Jean Baptiste Henri Joseph Desmazières (1827) "Recherches microscopiques et physiologique sur le genre Mycoderma" (Microscopic and physiological Researches on the genus Mycoderma) in Annales des Sciences Naturelles. Botanique (Annals of Natural History. Botanical series.) 10 pp. 42 - 67

Jean Baptiste Henri Joseph Desmazières (1853 - 1861) Plantes cryptogames de France (Cryptogamic plants of France)
16 fascicles of exsiccati
