studies medicine in Berlin

1865     switches to natural science

1866     transfers to Freiburg, then back to Berlin

1870     earns PhD

1871 - 1874     postdoc appointment on the North Sea

1875     appointed privatdozent in botany at Berlin university

1880     promoted to associate professor

1911     appointed to the board of trustees of the university

Uromyces ari-triphylliMagnus was primarily concerned with plant parasites. Lloyd has a note with the picture to the effect that he's not fierce the way he looks in the picture, he's actually a nice guy who didn't really want to have his picture taken.
