Biography

1863     November 3, born in Smolensk, Russia

studies at Bern, Lausanne (both in Switzerland), Montpellier (France) and Paris

1887     graduates from Moscow University

1901     founds the first research institute for phytopathology in Russia, at the St. Petersburg Botanical Gardens, where he stays for the rest of his career

1907     holds a variety of important posts in various agricultural beauracracies

His main publications were on rusts and mildews, and (one of?) the first sets of exsiccati of Russian fungi. Dörfelt credits his activities in St. Petersburg as interesting the entire next generation of mycologists in the field. He seems to have survived the revolution well. I suppose he could always have run to Switzerland (he certainly published enough on their fungi!) if it looked like things weren't going to work out in Russia.
Who is the P. A. Jaczewski who co-authored his 1931 book?

This is a little confusing: it seems that this is book one of a planned series, of which no more books were written. On the other hand, it's already the third edition of this book...
