Clitocybe clavipes

Back to the Eleanor Yarrow Index

The Club-footed Clitocybe is collected and eaten by some people who work from older books, who think that the white spores, decurrent gills, and fat stem base are sufficient for identification. In fact, there are at least half a dozen Clitocybes matching that description in this country, and some of them will make you quite ill. Besides, even the real Clitocybe clavipes can't be eaten with alcohol (or it too will make you sick) so what's the point?
