Arcyria ferruginea

Back to the Eleanor Yarrow Index

Arcyria is a genus of slime molds that have a long, coiled thread (or capilitium) inside their spore capsules. The capilitium gradually straightens out (like a slinky coming out of a can), flipping the spores off into the air. This particular species is named for the rusty color of its spores.
