Touchwood is a kind of tinder associated with fungi. It's not clear exactly what it is, and the term may have been used in different ways at different places and times. Snell says that can be either the soft, stringy wood that has been digested by a white-rot fungus, or the fruiting bodies of various conks that have been traditionally used for tinder.
