Our Mission...

— to promote the enjoyment, study and exchange of information about hunting, identifying, culturing and eating wild mushrooms. Anyone who has an interest in wild mushrooms is welcome to join the club and have fun with fungi, family and friends.

Who We Are....

Our members come from a diverse blend of interests and backgrounds. We are biologists, chefs, mycologists, programmers, blacksmiths, artists, photographers and everything in between. Among us, our knowledge of fungi ranges from true beginner to expert. We gather together because we share this interest for the amazingly rich and detailed kingdom of fungi. If you are interested in exploring mushroom culturing, foraging, mycophagy, photography or identification, welcome in! Mid Hudson Mycological Association is affiliated with the North American Mycological Association (NAMA) and is part of the North Eastern Mycological Federation (NEMF), a federation of eighteen clubs ranging from Canada to Virginia.

  • A Quick History

The Mid Hudson Mycological Association was founded by DCC Behavioral Sciences professor, Bill Bakaitis in 1983 in response to a growing need for education on the subject of edible and toxic mushrooms among the students and faculty of the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park (CIA). The "club" has remained active in educating the surrounding communities ever since, maintaining relationships with other organizations such as the Mohonk Preserve, Minnewaska State Park, The Morse Estate, The CIA and numerous regional groups
