GEORGE'S CORNER

I have often wondered about how I might combine my interest in the wonderful world of mushrooms with my professional qualifications (medicine) in order to produce an informative feature for our web site. Many of the possible subspecialties were either too limited in scope or too detailed for the general "fungophile". After some thought I realized that a column should not be limited only to the basic medicinal aspects of these denizens of the forest but should also include any aspect of mushroom consumption for the purpose of health improvement. Although medicine will be the main focus, I will attempt to be sufficiently inclusive of all the health issues regarding our fungal friends.

In regard to the culinary pursuits and the proper preparation of mushrooms as delicacies, I relegate such duties to the likes of those more qualified than I such as Dave Work and others in our talented association. For this feature we shall concentrate on the nutritional, medicinal, and toxicological qualities mushrooms present to us.

In addition to my own dissertations; I shall include links to appropriate news articles, and other sites of interest, for your convenience AND your health !

If you would like to request a possible topic for inclusion into this column, please feel free to E-mail me at G.J. Dagis . I will seriously consider all requests and I sincerely welcome them all.
