Rick was a Jesuit missionary who spent his entire professional life in the Brazilian jungle. He seems to have collected fungi to pass the time, publishing many articles and sending specimens to Lloyd. He was sidelined with a severe illness in the early 20s, but seems to have recovered nicely.
I don't know the provenance of Broteria, where he published almost all of his articles, but they seem to have been very nice, letting him publish things that (in spite of being called monographs) were very short and only dealt with a few taxa.
