Biography

1766     studies at the university of Bergen, Norway, where he was born

1767     studies with H. Strom, a nature-loving clergyman

1769     goes to Uppsala, studies with Linnaeus

1774     moves to Copenhagen, where he works in the botanical garden

1779     promoted to lecturer

after the founding of the nature research association of Copenhagen, he becomes (one of) its lecturer(s), librarian, and redactor (don't ask me, I don't know what that is, either)

1792     elected a member of Leopoldina

1801     appointed professor of botany at the university of Copenhagen
