Biography

1758     studies medicine, natural science and theology at Halle, travelling to Uppsala for intensive training in botany with Linnaeus.

1761     earns MD, appointed doctor at the pedagogium in Bützow (Mecklenburg)

1764     secretary for the economic association of Leipzig (board of commerce?)

1770     appointed third-level professor of medicine at the university of Erlangen

1773     appointed director of the botanical gardens and of the museum of natural history

1791     promoted to second-level professor of medicine

1793     promoted to first-level professor of medicine
