Biography

1942 - 1946     studies at the Technical Hochschule in Zürich, where he is assistant to Gäumann in the hochschule's Botanical Institute.

1947     internship at the Natural History Museum in Vienna

1949     publishes paper on Mycosphaerella, starts working at a phytopathology lab in Baarn, Netherlands

1963 - 1986     director of the Centraalbureau voor Schimmelcultures (Central Bureau for Mold Cultures) in Baarn, lectures at the University of Utrecht

1972     starts the publication series "Studies in Mycology"

von Arx was an industrious taxonomist, who published vigorously on all types of fungi. He also wrote some very successful text and reference books, especially on fungal characteristics in culture, which he was excellently situated to do research on.
