Biography

Alexopoulos was a myxomycologist who studied with Stevens and spent most of his career at the University of Texas at Austin. He authored one of the standard collegiate mycology textbooks

The illustrator is listed as Ruth McVaugh Allen. I'm assuming that this isn't the Ruth Allen of this database, since she probably wouldn't be just an illustrator, and she would have been 90 years old.

This is one of the two major textbooks in the US at the moment (the other is Bryce Kendrick's The Fifth Kingdom. Alexopoulos wrote the first edition by himself in 1950; later editions have employed co-authors.
