Cantharellus cibarius

Back to the Eleanor Yarrow Index

This excellent edible, "the" chanterelle, can be recognized by its bright yellow color, growth in troops across the forest floor - - not clustered around a tree or stump, as is the poisonous Jack o'Lantern, Omphalotus olearius - - its irregularly topped vase shape, and the branching veins on the underside of the cap.

Be sure to consult a field guide for aid in identification if you plan to eat this or any other mushroom.
