Point Reyes Mycoblitz Top 50 Fungi Collected

These photographs represent the top 50 mushrooms collected during the mycoblitz forays at Point Reyes National Seashore.

The top 50 are the fungi for which we have the most records. A record equals a report of the fungus on a given collecting zone and time. If a fungus is collected 40 times on one section of one trail, that counts as only one record.  If the same fungus is found on five zones on the same foray, or if it is found on all five forays, those both equal five records.  Simply translated, these are really, really common mushrooms in the park.

Most of these images are borrowed from Mushroom Observer, a website created by Nathan Wilson. Many of these images were taken by Darvin DeShazer, founder of the Sonoma County Mycological Association (SOMA), who was one of the primary mycoblitz oganizers. Whenever possible, an image taken at Point Reyes is used below.
